Cap, Gown, and Corgi! Abby’s dog-inclusive senior photos were such a joy to create, especially because I’ve known her since she was in pre-K with my son. I’ve also known her mom Sonya for about fifteen years. We met back when we were both baby photographers, shooting weddings together and swapping roles as each other’s second shooter. Sonya later stepped out of the photography world to become a dental hygienist, but we’ve stayed good friends ever since. So when she reached out and asked if I would photograph Abby’s senior portraits, I was honestly thrilled to be a part of this milestone.
We planned two completely different dog-inclusive senior photo sessions for Abby, and both gave us something beautiful. The first was in the studio for those classic, clean portraits—simple backdrops, her cap and gown, and yes, her adorable corgi joined in. He absolutely brought his own energy to the session and made the photos feel so authentic and personal to Abby.
Once the weather warmed up, we headed out to the gorgeous DeFries Gardens in New Paris for her outdoor portraits. The gardens were full and lush, the light was perfect, and Abby looked amazing among the blooms and soft greenery. Her corgi came along again, trotting happily through the gardens like he knew it was his moment to shine. Including him in both sessions made everything feel even more true to who Abby is.
Since finishing her senior year, Abby has officially graduated and started her freshman year at IUSB, working toward her dream of becoming a Physician’s Assistant. Photographing this chapter for her and her family was such an honor, and I cannot wait to see all the things she accomplishes in the years ahead.
